Field Notes: What Will It Become?

Field Notes: What Will It Become?

Some yarn seems to arrive with a plan.

You can almost see the sweater or shawl before you've finished winding the skein.

Others leave the question open.

I've had Indian Paintbrush in the Copper Crow collection from the beginning, inspired by the Wyoming wildflower that scatters red, coral, orange and the occasional unexpected shade across hillsides and mountain meadows. But seeing those familiar colors on a bulky base changes them somehow.

They're bigger here. Warmer. Easier to follow from one stitch into the next.

And bulky yarn has a rhythm all its own. Cast on a few stitches and before long, something has begun.

A hat, perhaps. A cowl. A scarf for that first genuinely cold morning.

Maybe that's part of the pleasure of bringing home a skein before you've settled on the answer.

Sometimes it's enough to put the yarn on the table, open the notebook, and wonder what it might become.

Field Notes: The Places We Carry

Field Notes: The Places We Carry

Some places stay with us.

Not because we never leave them, but because they become part of how we see the world.

For those of us who love Wyoming, home isn't defined by a single address. It's found in familiar landscapes, wide skies, weathered fence posts, and hillsides bright with Indian Paintbrush each summer. Those memories have a way of traveling with us wherever life leads.

When I first saw Joy In The Morning's hand-stamped jewelry, I knew it belonged at Copper Crow. Every piece is stamped one letter and one impression at a time, making each necklace beautifully unique. The Indian Paintbrush design felt especially meaningful—a quiet tribute to one of Wyoming's most recognizable wildflowers.

Paired with the hand-stamped copper "WYO" charm, it becomes more than jewelry.

It becomes a reminder.

Of home.

Of places we've loved.

Of landscapes that continue to shape us long after we've left them behind.

At Copper Crow, we're drawn to objects that carry stories. Things that become part of everyday life while quietly reminding us where we've been and what matters most.

This necklace feels like one of those things.

They get stamped into everything you carry.

Field Notes: Indian Paintbrush

Field Notes: Indian Paintbrush

There are some flowers that seem almost too bold for the landscapes they call home.

Indian Paintbrush isn't one of them.

Across Wyoming, it rises from sagebrush, mountain meadows, and open hillsides in brilliant shades of red, orange, coral, yellow, and even pink. It doesn't overpower the landscape. Somehow, it belongs there completely, adding flashes of color that make you stop, smile, and look a little closer.

I've always loved that about Indian Paintbrush.

Most people picture the familiar scarlet blooms, but if you spend enough time paying attention, you'll discover that Indian Paintbrush comes in remarkable shades and subtle variations. Every hillside tells a slightly different story. Every patch of wildflowers feels uniquely its own.

When I began planning Copper Crow Fiber Co., I knew I wanted a colorway inspired by Wyoming's state flower. I shared that idea with Shelly Ketcheson of Wicked Tint Yarns, and together we brought it to life. Shelly's artistry transformed the inspiration into a yarn that captures the warmth, movement, and vibrant spirit of Indian Paintbrush in bloom.

That collaboration is exactly the kind of story I hope Copper Crow tells.

Beautiful things are rarely created in isolation. They grow from shared ideas, skilled hands, and a love of the places that inspire us.

Every skein of Indian Paintbrush carries a little of Wyoming with it, and I'm honored that it became one of the first yarns to find a home on the shelves of Copper Crow.
